The Fortifications

Massive stone walls and 11 defensive towers encircle the Manasija Monastery complex.

Despot Stefan Lazarević built this monastic fortress between 1406 and 1418. The tall stone perimeter originally featured 12 towers to defend the spiritual center from Ottoman invasions.

Today, 11 towers remain intact. The imposing architecture serves as a prime example of medieval Serbian military engineering.
